اما امسال گری به شکلی متفاوت برای جشن آماده شد. تا چند روز پیش از جشن صدای اره و چکش فضای خیابان جکسون ۲۳۰۰ را پر کرده بود.
خانهی دوران کودکی مایکل جکسون در دست تعمیر بود اما همزمان یک خانهی دیگر نیز در دست ساخت و یکی نیز در حال بازسازی بود. زندانیان و خانه سازان داوطلب در این کار سهیم بودند. حتی خانم شهردار کارن فریمن ویلسون یک تیشرت آبی با نوشته‌ی "من گری را دوست دارم" بر رویش و یک پیشبند مخصوص نجاری پوشیده بود.
این سه خانه با فاصله‌ی کمی از یکدیگر در بلوک‌های ۲۳۰۰ و ۲۴۰۰ از خیابان جکسون قرار دارند. خانهی تازه تنها ۳۰ متر با خانهی کودکی مایکل فاصله دارد.
حدس زده میشد که افراد زیادی برای جشن زادروز مایکل جکسون به خانهی کودکی پادشاه پاپ بیایند و بنابراین دو خانه در همان نزدیکی برای پذیرایی و اسکان این عده در نظر گرفته شد.

Pence inspected the work, hung a piece of siding on the new home, at ۲۳۳۲ Jackson St., then met the pop star's mother, who is in town for the festival, which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday. He'd never met Katherine Jackson, and said talking with her as he sat on the sofa in the living room of ۲۳۰۰ Jackson Street was a "pinch me moment." "I said, 'One of the dreams of my life was to meet your son,'" he said. "But this is pretty close."

The Jackson family is hosting a three-day festival that begins in the morning, on Jackson Street and at adjacent Roosevelt High School, directly in back of the homestead. While Michael Jackson did not attend Roosevelt, his older brothers did.
The Jackson family has rehabilitated their old homestead, on the southwest corner of ۲۳rd Avenue and Jackson Street, and the home next door, at ۲۳۰۶ Jackson. The family has purchased ۲۳۱۲ Jackson and intends to rehab that home as well, Freeman-Wilson said.
The three-day festival will include live music on two stages, a car show, a dance competition and steppers show, a kids' pavilion and a petting zoo. Hours are ۱۲ noon until ۹ p.m. Thursday and Friday and ۹ a.m. until ۹ p.m. Saturday.
