A New Documentary About Michael Jackson: Life of an Icon

Life Of An Icon / “Life of an Icon” is the title of a new documentary by David Gest, Michael Jackson’s childhood friend. The documentary will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 31. As the producer of this documentary, David Gest tells the story of the King of Pop and has interviewed about 50 people, including Thomas Mesereau, Michael’s defense attorney during the 2005 trial; members of the Jackson family—his mother Katherine, his sister Rebbie, and his brother Tito; Michael’s former manager Frank Dileo, who has recently passed away; Bobby Taylor, the singer who discovered the Jackson 5 group years ago and brought them to Motown; Randy Taraborrelli, who wrote Michael’s biography in the book Magic And Madness; prominent artists such as Dionne Warwick, Smokey Robinson, and Whitney Houston; and also Frank Cassio, the brother of Eddie Cassio, who is one of the producers of the album “Michael.” This album was released after Michael’s death and became number one worldwide. The 61-year-old Mesereau says the documentary is a fitting tribute to Michael: “This documentary is very beautiful and authentic. It’s very emotional and includes interviews with great figures from Motown (the company), each of whom talks about Michael’s genius as a child. I can’t find any other documentary that has come out as beautifully as David Gest’s. It’s beautiful, emotional, and enlightening, and I think everyone should see it.” Katherine Jackson says: “This outstanding documentary expresses my son’s real personality, his emotional nature, and his witty sense of humor. It makes people cry when they see it, and they come to understand the truth of the man he was.” David Gest says he spent the last 15 months traveling around the world to interview different people. He continues: “Michael had a very complex personality, and this film presents different aspects of him.” The film also includes rare scenes from Michael’s live performances and his brothers, as well as unseen photos of them. David Gest and Michael began their friendship in 1969. Gest was the producer of a concert that Michael took on stage in 2001 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, to celebrate 30 years of Michael’s solo career (Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration).
