Michael Jackson Wins Three Simultaneous Polls for Best MTV Performance

It’s no surprise that Michael Jackson won three polls at the same time for Best Live Performance. Do you know anyone else who is more captivating on stage than him?

Michael’s unforgettable 1995 performance—where he delivered a medley of his songs and received standing ovations from the audience—won the most votes in three simultaneous polls: 1) the most memorable stage performance and 2) the best pop performance in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), which was organized by the MTV website, and also 3) the best performance in the history of these awards, which was organized by Billboard.

Billboard wrote about his 1995 performance (Watch on YouTube):

“Michael Jackson proved once again why he is the King of Pop. He hosted the awards show audience with a 10-minute showcase of his best songs, changed his clothes on stage, went into Moonwalk, played the Slash guitar, (Michael) grabbed at his pants enough for the 1990s, and delivered a speech in the middle of the performance. And these things caused Billboard’s website to be flooded with the tidal wave of votes from his fans—thousands upon thousands upon thousands—who had chosen this 16-year-old performance.”

In Billboard’s poll, the first slot for Michael’s 1995 performance was empty, and fan websites—including MJDotCom—had asked fans to nominate it in the voting list.

MTV’s poll reached the top by local time yesterday. The results will be officially announced during the MTV Awards ceremony on August 28—one day before Michael’s birthday. What a fun birthday gift, right?!
