Michael Jackson’s Children Visit Their Father’s Hometown (With Photos)

You know that from Friday to Monday, a four-day celebration for the King of Pop will be held in his hometown, Gary. On Friday morning (local time), Paris Jackson announced on her Twitter that she had entered her father’s childhood home and that the place was “very cool.”

Catherine and Joe, the grandparents, are accompanying their grandchildren on this trip. Paris, Prince, and Blanket went from their father’s home on Jackson Family Boulevard, 2300 Jackson Street, to Garnett Elementary School, where Michael and his sisters and brothers once studied. One of the relatives, Kate Jackson, took the children on a tour around the house and explained:

“This house is now enclosed and has been handed over to the Workforce Development company.”

The kids took photos in front of Garnett Elementary and greeted other members of the very large Jackson family. Kate told the children that some of their uncles and aunts had studied at Roosevelt High School before Jackson Five became such a big success.

When they were returning to 2300 Jackson Street, Kate said that the children were enjoying every moment of being in this city.

The children of the pop music legend, after circling the house yard and visiting their father’s memorial, met people behind the house fences, shook hands with them, and signed their photos.

Beth Shadra, a lucky fan from the Lake Station, was so close to the stage that she was able to give a necklace to 13-year-old Paris. She left the venue with the children’s signatures on a poster of Michael in his childhood.

But on the way, she told reporters:

“When I came here, I never even imagined that I would get the honor of meeting Michael’s children. They are all so beautiful.”

As sunset approached, the number of people increased. About 200 spectators were watching a small group performance on a stage set up in the living area of the house, called the “legend stage.” The stage performers were from Chicago or Gary. Catherine, Joe, and the kids were among the spectators too, and Catherine signed items for the fans.

Catherine said that seeing people from every region paying tribute to her son makes her choke up with love and joy:

“This is great and beautiful.”

She said she might stay in the city until Sunday. The kids have to be at school on Monday, so they don’t have much time to stay. Catherine added that she showed her grandchildren around the inside of the house—where their father slept, studied, and practiced.

“They are excited to see the place where their father grew up. Paris told me, ‘Mom, my grandmother loves this place.’”

A little later that night, Michael’s children watched a football match held at Maryville-Andrin High School.

Rudy Clay, the city mayor, gave good news to everyone: “Gary must celebrate Michael’s birthday every year because he is the greatest entertainer and stage performer who has ever lived, and we have so much love for him in our hearts.”
