The title of the episode comes from the title of Pink Floyd's seminal concept album. Each side of the album is a single musical composition that goes through different stages of human life and ends with allusions to death and the afterlife (Side 1 ends with the lyric free "The Great Gig in the Sky" and side 2 ends with "Eclipse" which alludes to the struggle between good and evil and that life and the afterlife are a summation of both). The title might be used as a direct reference to the afterlife because there is a repeated line in the second to last track "Brain Damage," "I'll see you on the dark side of the Moon," that follows a series of seemingly life ending conditional if statements which could be interpreted as referring to the after life but songwriter Roger Waters has stated it is meant to convey the fact that everyone gives into the dark forces and impulses in their life at some point including him.
