Thomas Mesereau called Jermaine Jackson’s escape plan pointless

Thomas Mesereau, Michael Jackson’s defense attorney in the 2005 trial that led to Michael Jackson’s acquittal, has dismissed the escape plan that Jermaine Jackson has recently claimed he had arranged as pointless.

Mesereau says that years after the trial ended, the Santa Barbara city police had expressed their deep concern about the possibility of uncontrolled violence in that city if Michael Jackson were convicted. They were especially worried about the “Nation of Islam.” Jermaine Jackson, Michael’s brother, had converted to Islam years ago and had been in contact with this community. He hired some members of this community as Michael Jackson’s security, but it wasn’t long before these people were dismissed by Michael Jackson.

Mesereau says that because of these concerns, if Michael Jackson were—hypothetically—found guilty, he would have been quickly transferred by helicopter to a prison in Lompoc, a city in Santa Barbara County.

But Mesereau adds that Michael never mentioned anything about an escape, and in addition, throughout the trial he had always complied with the rules. This lawyer has always said there was no concern about the jury’s verdict because he had assured Michael and everyone that the court had no evidence to convict him.

Some of the witnesses who tried to give false testimony against Michael Jackson in court were either former criminals or had themselves questioned the credibility of their own statements. As we’ve always said, this trial was only a vulgar and shameful show.
