Michael Jackson’s deep empathy and his ability to understand the pain and suffering of others are well known.
And once again, another story has come to light about this. Michael’s former brother-in-law says that Michael once used this God-given gift of his to save his life.
James DeBarge, who briefly married Michael’s sister Janet in the mid-1980s, recently appeared on the Dr. Drew Pinsky television talk show. The video of the interview will be released next week on lctv.com.
James told Dr. Pinsky:
"I went up to the roof of my house (Honeaht). I had decided to jump, and I had lost everything."
James explained how Michael’s mother, Katherine, and her daughters, Janet and Latoya, had gathered in the yard and were frantic. But Michael stayed calm.
Pinsky asked: "How did he stop you?"
"He was the only person who didn’t lose control. It seemed like he was familiar with my pain. He knew I needed someone to talk to. He was the phone I needed — the person I needed. We talked all night, and I completely forgot that I had been on the roof for some time and that I wanted to commit suicide."
James, along with his siblings, was part of the music group “DeBarge.” Just like the Jackson 5, except their group didn’t have much power to stay in the industry. On Dr. Pinsky’s show, they talk about their frustrations, their drug addiction, and the damage it caused to their lives—and they expect help from the doctor.
