The MTV Vanguard Award Returns in the Name of Michael Jackson
The Music Video Pioneer Award (Video Vanguard Award) in 1991 was renamed the Michael Jackson Music Video Pioneer Award.
That year, the award was given to Ben Gibb and Vin Esham.
After the accusations were raised in 2003, Michael’s name was removed from this award, and when he was acquitted of the charges in 2005, his name was not returned to the award. Last year, fans, by launching an internet campaign, asked for Michael Jackson’s name to be brought back to the award. (Read more)
After years, yesterday the MTV Music Video Pioneer Award was presented again under the name Michael Jackson.
Lady Gaga presented the award on stage to Britney Spears. Spears said:
“This award means a lot to me, especially because tomorrow is Michael’s birthday, and he had a huge impact on me, on Gaga, and on Beyoncé.”
