Kathy Hilton and Paris Hilton’s Memories of Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson and Kathy Hilton, the mother of Paris Hilton, studied at the same high school. They kept their friendship over the years. The Hilton family is considered among the old friends of the Jackson family. Before Michael’s death, Kathy hadn’t talked much about her relationship with him. But nearly two months ago, in an interview with Celebuzz.com, she shared memories of Michael Jackson. "My best memory with Michael is when we tried to find the Easter eggs. * One of the most memorable moments was when he took me to see Elizabeth Taylor. We were kids and we were joking around with each other. When Kyle (Paris’s sister) was four years old, Michael taught her how to say “monowak.” People have gotten it completely wrong about understanding him. When he was staying at the Waldorf (a hotel in New York), I told him that his fans were standing outside the hotel in the rain. He had to attend an important meeting, but he signed photos of himself for them and sent them umbrellas. That’s what he was like. Very kind and lovable. He raised beautiful, sweet children. I truly miss him." * On Easter, families hide colored eggs and the children have to find them. In her May 31 interview with Piers Morgan, Kathy Hilton also spoke about Michael: "When I first saw him, I was 13. He was also 14. Over the years, a close friendship formed between us, and we kept that relationship going. When I moved to New York, he would come visit me. We always went to watch his concerts. We used to joke with each other on the phone. We had a great time. When our daughter Paris was only a few months old, he came to see us. He lived at the Waldorf Hotel for six months. We had been living in New York for eight years. Before his death, he also lived at the Bel-Air Hotel—where we stayed because we were renovating our house. He stayed there for three or four months." At Bel-Air, no babysitter lived with them. When I went out to take the kids for a ride, he would comb their hair and fasten the buttons on their jackets. He was very warm and kind and amazing. I love him. Every member of his family is wonderful and lovable." Hearing the news of Michael’s death Kathy: "I had just returned to the hotel. My assistant told me. And I fell to the ground. My sister picked me up and we went straight to her house, because we thought the children should be there. After that, we went to the hospital. The children, Mrs. Jackson, and all his sisters and brothers were in the room. Everyone was crying and hugging each other. Everyone was confused and stunned. He was a father who made time for his children and spent a lot of time with them. From the moment they were born, he devoted himself to raising them and spending time with them. Then Latoya and Randy (Michael’s sister and brother) took me into the room where Michael was, so I could say goodbye to him. I think that if I hadn’t done that, I would never have believed that he had passed away. Because he was a strong, healthy man. In the head room, I caressed his arms and legs and told him how much I loved him, and I whispered a few cute lines into his ear." Piers Morgan: "It was an infinitely sad ending for him, wasn’t it?" Kathy: "Yes. When he was at the hotel, he would wake up early in the morning and play with his children. It was truly amazing and it shocked me." A memory from Paris Hilton Paris: "One of my earliest memories is when my mom took us to the trailer filming set. We still have pictures of it. I always loved him. We always went to watch his concerts, and he would bring me and my sister on stage to sing with him. I always loved him so much. He was an incredible man." Visiting Paris Hilton’s work studio Kathy: "One time he told me, Kathy, I want to see Paris. I told him Paris is out of town. He said, ‘Okay, I want to see her studio.’ I said, ‘Okay, hop in.’ He got in. It was 8:30 at night. His children were also there. In her studio, he looked at all the photos on the walls. He wanted to see everything. He loved art. He looked at the Pinocchio and Tinkerbell collection and all the things Paris had. He said Paris reminded him of the things I like." Why did Michael choose the name Paris for his daughter? Piers Morgan: "He was an exceptional genius, wasn’t he? (addressing Paris Hilton) He put your name on his daughter. How does that make you feel?" Paris: "I’m honored." Kathy: "Latoya will tell you this story. When we were kids, we agreed that we would name our first daughter Paris. I had a daughter before them, and I named her Paris. And when she had a daughter, she named her Paris too. I recently went out for dinner with her children. I can’t believe how fast they’ve grown." Michael’s children Piers Morgan: "Are they being taken good care of?" "Are you kidding?!! They live with Mrs. Jackson in a beautiful home. They have good security. We were their dinner guests. They went upstairs to their rooms, did their schoolwork, and then came back and showed it to their grandmother. They took a shower and said good night, grandma, I love you. Seeing them was wonderful." Michael Jackson wasn’t addicted Piers Morgan: "Was he addicted to painkillers, or is that claim incorrect?" Kathy: "I didn’t see anything. When he lived at the Bel-Air Hotel, his room was directly under my room. We talked to each other the whole time. If we were going somewhere during the day, he would say, ‘Be there at 1 by the fountain.’ I might be 5 minutes late, but he was there on time—and he would come with the kids. In my heart, I believe he wasn’t addicted. The issue is that when the concerts came, it became difficult for him to sleep. He couldn’t sleep. He wasn’t the kind of person who would go to work just to have fun and enjoy himself." What will Michael’s legacy be? Kathy: "Now that he’s gone, everyone suddenly realized what a good man he was and what amazing things he did for charitable organizations. He left behind three beautiful children."
