Conrad Murray’s Lawyers: Quarantine the Jury

In a motion filed in Los Angeles court last Thursday, the defense attorneys for the man accused of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson’s death once again asked that the jurors be effectively monitored and prevented from having any access to news that the media is publishing about Conrad Murray. They are concerned about the negative wave currently building against their client in the media.

This request had been raised before as well. At that time, the judge’s response from Pastor was that he did not believe 24-hour care for these individuals was necessary, and, in addition, the court did not have sufficient budget to do so.

In their motion, Murray’s lawyers wrote that they expect Conrad Murray’s trial—described as the most famous trial in history—to become a major media event. They also reminded the court that during the selection of jurors for this trial, which took place a few months ago and ended halfway, only one of the people summoned to court had said that she had not heard anything about the Michael Jackson murder case. In a footnote, the lawyers added the reason for that woman’s lack of knowledge: “That lady didn’t speak English.”

On August 25, the judge will decide on their request. Jury selection will also resume again starting September 8.
