Debbie Joins Effort to Get Visitation Rights for Her Children

Debbie is seeking to obtain visitation rights for her children, Prince and Paris Jackson. Debbie and Michael separated in 1998. In 2001, Debbie waived all her parental rights and granted custody of the children to their father, Michael Jackson. But after two years had passed—i.e., in 2003—Debbie filed a request for custody rights for her children. The judge in this case refused to grant custody of the children to their mother, but restored Debbie’s maternal rights to her. Debbie then filed a request to reach an agreement with Michael Jackson under certain conditions. The judge also rejected those conditions. This October, Debbie appeared on a television program. Although she only talked about horses and the sale of her house, Michael considered it a violation of the divorce terms and refused to pay Debbie the $1 million annual allowance. Following that, Debbie has become even more determined to obtain custody rights for her children. Michael Jackson has not attended any of the court sessions.
