100 Scenes That Shook Television

Music network VH1 and magazine TV Guide selected 100 moments from the world of music that shook television in a joint project, and Michael is ranked #2 on this list.

The following text about Michael was published on the Entertainment Tonight website:

#2: “Michael Jackson Moonwalks — at the 25th anniversary ceremony of Motown (Yesterday, Today, Always)”

Lisa Bernhard (TV Guide deputy editor): The funny thing about the Motown anniversary ceremony was that it was supposed to be a look at the incredible music of Motown’s past. Michael Jackson came along with his brothers — the five Jacksons (Jackson Five). Who wouldn’t like that? Then, all of a sudden, he was alone on stage and started Billie Jean with all those moves. It looked like he was sliding across the floor, as if a set of special effects had been applied to the ground he was stepping on, making his movement slow and showing him in that way. In fact, he did that move himself. You really wanted to scream. You couldn’t believe it. It was truly astonishing.“

Michael is also ranked again on this list for the broadcast of the Thriller music video for the first time on television, in position #9. Michael is also included again on this list for voicing a character in the animated series The Simpsons.
